The best non wh player seen at Upton park
|
The best players I have seen to play against us has to be Drogba and Rooney for the quick thinking and skill.
This has to be purely on your own opinion and I suppose a few names will raise eyebrows but Would be interesting to see what players you had in mind

Seen some fine individual performances from the opposition at Upton Park.
Overall I would probably go for George Best. Also saw Eusebio but only in a testimonial.
Best team performance: Dynamo Tiblisi Best Goal: Tommy Jenkins (Southampton, circa 1970)

Sorry about the spelling Monk but what a night that was. They were quite rightly applauded off the pitch after a magnificent performance. Bearing in mind our lot had a terrible reputation off the pitch.

jfk, I posted at the same time as you so hadn't seen your spelling;-)
It was a strange night wasn't it. Although we were second division we were flying with high expectations and Tiblisi came and played what seemed like a completely different game. Disappointing in many ways but you couldn't help admire.

There was one player in particular in the Tiblisi game who was outstanding, his name escapes me though.

Aleksandr Chivadze, Vladimir Gutsaev and David Kipiani were among their notable players.

Gazza in 88/89 tore us a new one then went off injured. John Barnes around the same period for Liverpool was sublime against us, untouchable. Others that stick out in the memory are Waddle for Sheffield Wednesday, Les Ferdinand and Ray Wilkins both for qpr but in different matches.

One of the best - but not THE best (which was probably BEST) was Rodney Marsh. Gave as good as he got from the Chicken Run.
